An American Story

It was a cold April morning.  The sun was still below the horizon.  A man had just raced through the sleepy little town yelling a warning to anyone who could hear him,  “They’re coming! They’re coming now!”  This was a shock to the people in the town.  Many thought this day would never come, yet here it was. They had tried to prepare for this while at the same time hoping it would never happen. They were ready. They had to be ready.  The townspeople began waking each other up and spreading the news.  “They’re coming!  Everyone is meeting at the tavern to decide what we are going to do”.  The young men and boys were excited.  The older men, however, were a little nervous.  Mothers, daughters, and sisters timidly waved goodbye as the men in their lives left to meet with the others at the tavern.

The people in the town had been regularly meeting to discuss the current political situation. The government had been trampling on the rights of the people for years and the anger was growing.  The situation was becoming more tense by the day.  The people were angry that their rights were being ignored.  Many in the nearby city had become rowdy, and at times had destroyed property in venting their frustration at the government.   The government had recently lashed out at the people for protesting and a some citizens were no longer alive because of it.  The townspeople had begun to fear for their safety and started to make plans with the other towns in the area.  They began stockpiling supplies, such as rifles and ammunition.  Most thought this was unnecessary, “The government will eventually come around,” they said… but on this April morning, rifles were being passed out at the town tavern.

Tea Party Violence Vs. Union Violence

It seems like every time you pick up a newspaper or turn on CNN or MSNBC, there is a “journalist” accusing Tea Party members of being violent.  They cite some angry and threatening voice-mails and the arrests of a few people as proof that the movement is inciting people to violence.  Of course, they ignore or down play the death threats directed at conservatives, such as Jim Bunning or Eric Cantor, and they act like the liberals who threatened to kill President George Bush over the Iraq war never existed.  Let’s face it, there are crazy people in this country on the left and the right, and any large group of people (like the Tea Party movement) is going to have a few crazies in it.  It’s a statistical certainty, but the main stream media is trying to demonize an entire movement because of the existence of a few crazy people.

I have decided to use this same method (and demonstrate the absurdity of liberals and the main stream media) by  demonizing an entire group of people usually associated with the Democrat Party.  And unlike the main stream media, I actually have a large body of evidence to justify my claim that unions incite people to commit violent acts.

Twitter Commentary on the State of the Union

I have not had time to write a post the last couple of days because my computer has some sort of malware that high-jacks all of my search results on Google or Yahoo and sends me to some internet shopping page.  I have been spending all of my computer time trying to fix this very annoying problem.  If I ever find someone who creates these types of programs, we may have to step outside and have a “conversation”!  However, I do plan to have a running twitter commentary of the President’s State of the Union address while he is speaking.  If you would like to read my commentary while watching the speech, just click here.  Thanks!

3 Reasons Why Health Care is Not a Right

I’ve watched a lot of C-span in the last couple of weeks while the Senate was debating their health care bill.  I noticed a reoccurring theme from almost every Democrat Senator who spoke on the floor.  The theme was that health care is a right.  Sen. Harkin (D-Iowa) even went as far as saying health care is an unalienable right!  When did this happen?  When did a service or product become a right?  How is it even possible?  Health care can not be a right and I will explain why.

Reason 1

First, we must identify what a right is, or more specifically, an unalienable right.  Historically, Americans believed an unalienable right is one that is not given to us by our government but is inherent and given to us by our Creator.  In other words, we were born with unalienable rights and these rights can not be taken away.  This is illustrated in the Declaration of Independence,

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men…

According to the Declaration of Independence, the government’s job is to secure (meaning to protect) our rights, not grant them!

So we now know that an unalienable right is not given to us by a government but is something we are born with because it is given to us by our Creator.  This begs the question, “Are we born with a right to health care?”

I’ll be back soon

I wanted to apologize to my regular readers for not posting during the last week.  Besides the normal time constraints of family visiting for the Thanksgiving holiday, we unfortunately had a death in the family.  Your prayers are greatly appreciated and I hope to be back to blogging within a few days.

Veteran’s Day 2009

The fighting stopped on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month.  The armistice ending 4 years of bloodshed in World War 1 was signed in a railroad car in a French forest on November 11, 1918.  This date was originally known as Armistice day and was designated as a holiday to honor WW 1 Veterans.  After WW2 and the Korean War, Congress and President Eisenhower changed it to Veteran’s day.  It was to be a holiday that honored all veterans.  May we honor and thank our veterans not just on November 11th, but every day of the year.  I extend my sincerest gratitude to all of our veterans.  Thank you for serving our great country and thank you for the sacrifices you made so that we may be free.
