The Price of Stupak’s Vote? 4.7 Billion Dollars

bart stupakDemocrat Bart Stupak misled the American people when he claimed he and a group of Congressmen would vote no for the health care bill if it included public funding for abortion.   As we all know, he and his cohorts switched their no vote to a yes after President Obama promised to sign an executive order reaffirming that no federal money will be used for abortions.  The fishy part about that deal is the fact that a law passed by Congress and signed by the President overrides an executive order.  So President Obama’s executive order was meaningless because the very law Stupak voted for cancels out the executive order.  We have to assume Stupak knew this and the whole executive order ordeal was a way to provide cover for him for going back on his much publicized pro life pledge.  So, what was the real reason Stupak voted for the health care bill?

When did Pelosi Become Pro Life?

It appears we have more evidence that Speaker Pelosi will do anything to get health care reform passed.  She has long been a leading advocate of abortion and abortion “rights”, but has started pandering to Catholics to get their support on the Senate health care bill.  Catholic Bishops have come out against the Senate bill, but in this video clip from today, Pelosi is obviously trying to gain the support of Catholics and even refers to the Senate bill as “life affirming legislation.”  Will any Catholics be fooled by this?

Does anyone think Pelosi really cares about St. Joseph or whether or not this legislation is “life affirming”? Is it possible for her to be any more fake or hypocritical?

Obama’s Health Care Plan Provides No Money for Abortions

Trust me, I have a plan.

When President Obama made his health care speech to a joint session of Congress, he said, “And one more misunderstanding I want to clear up: Under our plan, no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions.”  This seems pretty cut and dry — no federal dollars for abortions means no tax money for abortions.  In spite of what the President said, both the House and the Senate versions of health care reform include federal money or tax credits for abortions.  The Senate bill even provides money for Planned Parenthood!  Was the President lying?  The answer, according to Obama, is no.  Even though the health care bills in Congress do provide federal dollars for abortion, Obama’s health care plan does not.  From CNSNews.com,

Rep. Bart Stupak (D.-Mich.) told CNSNews.com that President Barack Obama told him in a telephone conversation that when he said in his Sept. 9 speech to a joint session of Congress that “under our plan no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions” he was not talking about the actual bill drafted in the House but about the president’s own health care plan—which has never been written.

Does Obama think we ‘re stupid?  He claims that he was referring to his own health care plan when he gave that speech to Congress but does his plan even exist?  Where is his health care plan?  Can we go to the White House web site and read it?  If Congress passes health care reform will he veto it because it is not the same as his plan?  Why hasn’t he introduced a written form of his plan to the Congress?

I think this is a way of trying to distance himself from an unpopular policy that he actually supports.  People will say that he lied because the health care bill includes money for abortions.  He can then reply that his plan did not include money for abortions.
