The Price of Stupak’s Vote? 4.7 Billion Dollars

bart stupakDemocrat Bart Stupak misled the American people when he claimed he and a group of Congressmen would vote no for the health care bill if it included public funding for abortion.   As we all know, he and his cohorts switched their no vote to a yes after President Obama promised to sign an executive order reaffirming that no federal money will be used for abortions.  The fishy part about that deal is the fact that a law passed by Congress and signed by the President overrides an executive order.  So President Obama’s executive order was meaningless because the very law Stupak voted for cancels out the executive order.  We have to assume Stupak knew this and the whole executive order ordeal was a way to provide cover for him for going back on his much publicized pro life pledge.  So, what was the real reason Stupak voted for the health care bill?

Representative Government or Reprehensible Government?

While watching the C-span coverage of the House of Representatives and their vote on the Senate health care bill, I became more and more depressed as the debate went on.   It is clear to all who have eyes to see and ears to hear that the majority of Americans do not want this bill.  All the polls have shown this. T he bill just passed by the House (219 to 212) still includes the Corn-Husker Kickback, the Louisiana Purchase, and federal funding of abortion.  Americans do not want these things to become law, but the Democrats have rejected the will of the American people.

With our government firmly rejecting the will of the people and seizing power that we the people have not given them via the Constitution, we are left with the question, “What can we do?”  What can we the people do when our representative government no longer represents us?  What can we the people do when our politicians have rejected the American ideal of self governance?  What can we the people do when our own hard earned tax money is used to buy votes?  What can we the people do when our government mandates what we must buy and which doctors we must see?  What can we the people do when our government rejects us?

This is a sad day for our country.  Our forefathers, who were mostly farmers and shopkeepers, fought a war against one of the largest and most powerful empires in history to create a representative republic focused on limited government and liberty.  My fellow Americans, we are no longer a representative republic.  We now have an oligarchy of Democrats ruling over us who reject our American idea of self governance.  This oligarchy does not care what we the people want because they have rejected the will of the people.  They have forgotten that all power rests in the people. They have forgotten that they work for us.  I think it’s time we jog their memory.

Our republic has been dealt a painful blow, but we cannot give up the fight.  We cannot give up the fight to reclaim our founding principles of self government and liberty. We cannot and we will not give up. I truly believe we can win and “that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom — and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”

Paul Ryan vs. Louise Slaughter

During a committee meeting this morning in Congress, Rep. Paul Ryan and Rep. Louise Slaughter had it out over his Medicare plan and the current health care bill before the house. Ryan really makes Slaughter look uneducated and ill prepared. The more I see of Rep. Ryan, the more I like him. This video is great.

When did Pelosi Become Pro Life?

It appears we have more evidence that Speaker Pelosi will do anything to get health care reform passed.  She has long been a leading advocate of abortion and abortion “rights”, but has started pandering to Catholics to get their support on the Senate health care bill.  Catholic Bishops have come out against the Senate bill, but in this video clip from today, Pelosi is obviously trying to gain the support of Catholics and even refers to the Senate bill as “life affirming legislation.”  Will any Catholics be fooled by this?

Does anyone think Pelosi really cares about St. Joseph or whether or not this legislation is “life affirming”? Is it possible for her to be any more fake or hypocritical?

Paul Ryan at the Health Care Summit

Paul Ryan was one of the few bright spots during the 7 and a half hour long “bipartisan” Health Care Summit.  I wasn’t able to watch as much as I wanted because of my work schedule, but what I did hear was more of the same.  From the Democrats, it was sob stories and ideas based on emotions.  From the Republicans, it was tort reform, buying insurance across state lines and anger at the President and Democrats for shutting them out of the process and breaking promises of transparency.

Even though the Republicans gave some great ideas, we all know that Obama isn’t going to incorporate any of them.  This health care summit was designed to make Obama and the Democrats look good and the Republicans look bad.  Unfortunately for Obama, I think it backfired on him.  Several Republicans, in addition to Paul Ryan, had some great things to say and I’ll try to post some of them as I’m able.  I also got the impression that the Republicans knew more about Obama’s plan than Obama did.  They definitely came prepared.

How Will Obama’s Health Care Plan Lower Costs?

The White House has released President Obama’s health care plan.  Supposedly, it’s supposed to lower costs and increase coverage.  I’ve read most of what is posted on the White House website, but I don’t see anything new.  It seems like it’s the Senate bill with a few measures from the House bill mixed in.  The opening paragraph of Obama’s plan claims that Republican suggestions have been included, but I have yet to see the 2 main pillars of the Republican take on health care — tort reform and buying insurance across state lines.  Obama’s plan consists of new government regulations, mandates on buying insurance, new taxes on “evil rich” people and tax credits for everyone else.  It can basically be summed in two points, more government intrusion into our lives and redistribution of wealth.  How will this be beneficial to our country and our health care system?   From what I’ve read, this plan does nothing to actually reduce the cost of health care, and provides government handouts to help some people pay for health care.  This would naturally increase the deficit, but will supposedly be paid for by taxes on businesses and the rich.  The following is a summary of the section of the plan that is supposed to make health care more affordable.
